On Twitter, Age Doesn't Matter

Tonight, while tweeting with @jordikell, @GeekMommy made an interesting observation.

Jordikell

The more I think about it, the more I realize just how spot on she is.

As the tweets roll by, I don't give any thought to how old people are.  It's even more so for me because I do almost all of my tweeting through GTalk, so I don't usually see the avatars.  I have an idea of the age of a lot of people, because I scan through everyone's blog posts, and they often tweet about what's going on in there life, whether, school, family, or work.  However, I can't sit back and tell you that so and so 31 years old, and so and so is 15 years old, and so and so is 57 years old.  I can tell you that @AmandaGravel is 20ish, because we are both part of the Twenty Something Bloggers network.

Upon thinking about this even more, I have to say, I don't really care that much about how old my Twitterbuds are.  Yes, I like some older folks on there, because I'm heavily into tech, and these people have been through some times that I wasn't, and have some wisdom to share.  I also like being friends with people close to my age, because we all like talking to people of our generation.  But in the broad scope of things, it doesn't matter.  Somebody will tweet something, and I'll love it and respond, or I'll disagree and respond, never once thinking about their age, only the topic at hand.

So I ask you, do you notice how old people are on Twitter?

Honestly - it's one of the appeals to me - that we don't focus so much on age when we're on Twitter.
It's the quality of the thoughts, the ideas, the conversation, and the personalities that matter.

Yes, we have different things in common with different people - sometimes it's an age/life-experience commonality - but it's nice that it's not the focus on Twitter.

Because it makes it more about the words than the surface impression.

well this post certainly gives food for thought, never thought how old someone might be and how would you really know !?!

I replied two days ago, but I did have an awful lot of windows/tabs open, so when I pressed 'Post', I'm guessing something went wrong. I will try to remember what I posted :)

I myself enjoy Twitter and the people I meet there, no matter what age they are. I actually don't really think about it a lot. But sometimes I see someone's picture and I usually can see what age someone (approximately) has. And like I said, I don't really care about it, but sometimes it's just fun to know. I'm mainly looking for people on Twitter that have something in common with me. People that are as geeky as me, people who design or develop like me, gamers, people that are like-minded. :)
