Why Can't I Find Anything?

I am a geek, living in a world of social media, where EVERYTHING gets tagged, archived, and indexed.  EVERYTHING.  So why is it, that I can never seem to find what I'm looking for?  This morning I was looking for an address, which I still haven't found, which made me start thinking about blogging this, which brought even more looking.  I don't have a digital camera, so I had to use my phone to take the picture of my 'desk.'  I haven't figured out how to send files from my phone to computer via bluetooth yet, so I popped the MicroSD card out to copy the pic to the computer, but then I couldn't find my SD adapter card.  All the more frustrating, is that it wasn't but a month ago that I 'organized' and cleaned up around here!  So why is this so hard for me?

I spend a large portion of my day in front of my computer, learning about a variety of things, from web development and social marketing, to how to write better and improve research habits;  conversing on Twitter, networking on Facebook and LinkedIn; and lots of job hunting and resume sending.  Along the way, I'll inevitably find things I like, which I'll submit to the likes of Delicious, Magnolia, StumbleUpon, Mahalo, Digg, Mixx, Reddit, and maybe even share with others on Google Reader, Shyftr and Tumblr.  Each time, these items either will be or already have been tagged.  When I want to look for this item again, I merely need to visit the site, do a quick search, and voila!  There it is.

Now if everything was on my computer, this would be simple, but old habits die hard.  Somebody calls, and I write something down for easy reference, and that's as far as it goes.  On another piece of paper, buried on this table I call a desk.  Then the day comes when I need that info, and I can't find it.  I don't know why I put it on paper, I'm sitting in front of the computer, it would've been just as simple to upen of notepad or use a virtual sticky note to jot it down on, at which point it's on the computer, which I have ZERO problems keeping organized.

Maybe I just need to move any semblence of paper and writing device a good distance away from the computer, so all of this gets put directly into the computer.  Maybe I just need to be more disciplined about putting onto the computer instead of grabbing a pen.  Or maybe I just need to look at finding a way to organize this all that works for me.  I guess, with all of this in mind, I should make sure I have everything I need for youth group tonight lined up and ready to go.  It's a big night for us, and I need to be there within 3 hours to start setting up.

Now where's that address........
