Sick Dunk

This dunk is sick, no matter how wide open he may be.

Both Teams Win in Kurt Thomas Deal

Center Francisco Elson will be joining guard Brent Barry as he returns to the Sonics, in exchange for Kurt Thomas.  In addition to shaving some money off of the payroll, the Spurs are giving up their first round pick in 2009.  At first glance, many people would think the Spurs aren't answering the recent deals made by the Suns and Lakers.  Truth be told, those trades were made to deal with San Antonio, the Spurs are merely increasing the depth of their front line with this deal.

Dwight Howard, Moving the Bar Higher

If you don't know this yet, I love basketball.  I also love old school big men.  Those throwback guys that are not only fully capable of dominating on offense, but show their true talents by absolutely dominating a game with their rebounding and defensive presence.  I was a very happy man last night, as I watched such a guy, Dwight Howard, DOMINATE the NBA's Dunk Contest.  He truly raised the bar to a new level, with creativity that has never been seen before, and truly, playing ABOVE the rim.

And here is more on his 'Superman Dunk.'

Suns Fans Can Chill Out Now

So the word on the street is that Shaq will no longer play for Miami, but we'll see how things shake out back West again.  Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks will move to Miami, as Shaq takes up residence next to Amare Stoudemire in Phoenix.  I'm sure you've already read about five reviews of the trade already, so you might as well read this one too, because it's more fair than you might think.

Conspiracy, Lakers, and All Stars

Well, the NBA news front certainly jumped up a notch the last 24 hours.  Out of nowhere the Spurs snap out of a funk, Gasol winds up in LA, and endless discussion is had about the all star snubbing.  And that is outside of the Celtics continuing to win without Garnett, and Orlando's Redick suddenly saying he wants a trade as well!  Well, lets get on with it.

San Antonio, Gearing Up or Done?

Duncan Alright, I'm as big a Spurs fan as anyone out there, I know as well as any fan that the annual Rodeo Trip is a turning point, but nobody can tell me they aren't a little bit concerned right now.  After seeing that my boys in black have lost yet again (I've been spoiled by over 10 years of winning), I had to say something.  I've seen all the reports, the guys are old, but they're also experienced.  The Spurs have forgotten more about winning than most teams can hope to know.  Duncan is the rock, the foundation, Bowen can shut down anyone on the perimeter, Parker is a top 5 point guard, and Ginobili is the sixth starter.  So why are they fifth in the west at 28-14, ahead of the Lakers only because they've played one more game?

Brett Favre, lol

Also from last years Superbowl, we have a classic NFL commercial.  Why is it classic?  Because Brett Favre gets poked at, and he needs to get out of the way of the Packer's best quarterback.  Not that I like the Packers, I just don't like Favre.

Cowboys Keep Coach, May Lose Others

After early reports that Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett would make his decision today, he has turned down both the Falcons and Ravens, to stay with Dallas.  This is a huge win for the organization, and it is probable that he would be named Assistant Coach soon.  Unfortunately, several other coaches had contracts which expired, and now Jones is in a ten day window to get them signed to new contracts.  The Secondary Coach, Linebackers Coach, and Defensive Line Coach could all potentially be somewhere else next year, with rumors that two of them could be rejoining Parcells in Miami.  The going gets tougher for Jones, as one bit of good news brings another task that must be worked through.

Dallas, Your Move

Now that the Dolphins have hired Tony Sparano away, I think it's time that Mr. Jerry Jones does his thing.  This leaves the Assistant Head Coach position open for the Cowboys.  I realize that that this is not the same as being a Head Coach, but I do believe that tacking a hefty raise on too would keep Jason Garrett with us next year.  Garrett is an excellent fit, and another year working in Dallas, learning more about Wade's defense, would help make his eventual succession in Dallas a smooth one, much like when Avery Johnson took over for Don Nelson with the Dallas Mavericks.  Please Jerry, do what it takes, keep Mr. Garrett in Dallas!

Dallas Cowboys: Future Dynasty or Chokers?

I offer full disclaimer to anyone who doesn't already know, I am a Dallas Cowboys fan.  As we all know, Dallas had a great season this year, finishing the regular season at 13-3 is no easy task.  We also know, Dallas lost in the playoffs again this year, and just like last year, had a chance in the closing seconds.  Immediately the cries rang out for Romo's head, blaming his escape to Mexico for distracting him.  I want to know if those people actually watched the game?  Romo played very well, save for the interception he threw to finish the game.  Did you all see the dropped passes?  What about the penalties?  Not just the legitimate penalties either, I mean the first one called on Demarcus Ware.  Ware is so good, he times the snap count better than the offense does, and the refs frequently throw the flag because they're not used to seeing someone that quick flying around the end.

Dallas may have lost this year, and last year as well, but they certainly did not choke.  As ESPN reminded us soon after the game, Dallas is the 4th youngest team in the NFL.  Not to mention Romo has only started for 1 complete season, last year he learned, this year he broke records while learning, just think what he can do next year?  Also, Terry Glenn, the leading receiver from the prior season, only played 2 games, bring back that speed threat next year and the offense is even more explosive!  Virtually every successful champion, regardless of the sport, takes some knocks in the playoffs before winning it all.  These Cowboys are no different.  Beware the mighty Cowboys next year, as Jones has 2 first round picks, and I'm positive one of them will bring another talented CB into the fold, plus another year of experience for this young crew, and they'll be doing damage many years from now.
